This is the second pair of sunglasses I have ordered from John. Both orders were received expeditiously (two days), were exactly as anticipated, and fit perfectly. I use these frames for prescription lens and prescription sunglasses. They are the same frames I wore for many years in the Air Force and continue to wear them now. They are comfortable and virtually indestructible. Always order from John and you will always get expeditious, professional and personal service .

Just got a pair of these from John. The fit is absolutely amazing. I have a big fat (that's what my family and coworkers say), and the glasses went on easily and sit very securely on my face. The construction is very solid, not heavy, but solid. Fit me far better than any Ray Bans I had before, and the resolution is great. Dealing with John was very easy, buy from him with confidence as he will return your persos if there is anything you don't like. But, you will be keeping them, that's for sure.

So I ordered these about three weeks ago, they arrived two days later. John, himself, took my order. Gave great advice and answered my questions. The impression I had was like speaking to an old friend, great service!

I received the two pair I ordered one for, Varilux progressive, multi-focal clear prescription lenses and another for prescription single vision polarized lenses. Both have anti-reflective coating.

My adult friends liked them and asked where I bought them. My 12 year old daughter said, “Daddy, the eighties called, they want their glasses back.”  Then I showed her a picture of me in my flight suit and aviator glasses, from my Navy squadron, in 1983. She said, “Daddy, you look like Goose from Top Gun.” She said, “I guess you can keep them!” Kids…

The optician was skeptical when I told her I was ordering frames online. I told her all the frames she had in stock looked too effeminate and she offered to order me aviator frames, get this, online.  When I took my, Randolph Engineering, aviators in to have them fitted for lenses she commented on what fine quality they appeared to be. She also commented that she would not hesitate to recommend them if other customers requested real aviator frames.

The Varilux progressive lenses work just great. So if you are worried about using the Randolph Engineering aviator frame compatibility with progressive lenses, don’t hesitate to use them.

UV Protection

There are 3 categories of invisible high energy UV rays: UVC rays, the highest-energy rays and potentially the most harmful, UVB rays with slightly longer wavelengths and lower energy than UVC rays and UVA rays which are closer to visible light rays but which can pass through the cornea and reach the lens and retina inside the eye. Gary Heiting, O.D. has researched the effects of UV (ultra-violet) rays noting that extended exposure to the sun’s UV rays has been linked to eye damage, including cataracts, macular degeneration, pingueculae and pterygia and photokeratitis that can cause temporary vision loss.

Randolph Aviators
In the second image note how the Randolph Aviators lens blocks the harmful UV rays and the Infrared rays, but allows all of the visible light to pass through. When considering the purchase of a pair of aviator sunglasses it is important to make sure they block between 98-100% of these harmful UV rays, as well as the infrared rays. Infrared radiation is transformed into heat which can heat up and burn the surface of your eyes. This is why your eyes may feel warm, become red and tired with long exposure to bright sunlight.Blocking the Infrared radiation results in your eyes feeling cooler, preventing surface burn damage to your retina.

randolph aviators
The very best aviator sunglasses must block 98 to 100% of UV rays along with the infrared rays and “blue light” rays. Recent studies suggest that the blue end of the light spectrum may also contribute to retinal damage and possibly lead to macular degeneration. The retina can be harmed by high-energy visible radiation of blue/violet light that penetrates the macular pigment found in the eye. Notice how the Randolph Aviators lenses with premium mineral glass are ground to block uv, infrared and visible “blue light” rays. Randolph aviators

Size Guide

There are several methods for determining the proper Frame Width for your face.

  1. If you already own a pair of glasses and/or sunglasses that fit you well simply use a ruler and measure the inside dimensions of the frame;
  2. You can look at the arms (temples) and/or under the nose bridge and see if the Frame Width is stamped there;
  3. You can use a ruler and looking into a mirror measure the width of your head from temple to temple.

Measure Your Own Glasses

If you already own a pair of glasses or sunglasses simply flip them over and measure inside width to determine the best size for you.

In addition, you can look on the inside of the temples to find the size of those sunglasses, or alternatively look under the bridge for the sunglasses size information.
