How To Measure PD

What is PD?

PD stands for Pupillary Distance.

Pupillary distance is the distance between the center of your pupil in one eye to the center of your pupil in the other eye.

Why Are Your PD Measurements Important?

Prescription glasses and sunglasses are best made using your PD numbers. 

This is important because you will want the centers of your lenses to match the distance between your pupils.

If the optical center of your lenses are not placed correctly in front of your eyes, the prescription will seem off.

For example, if they do not match you might experience a few problems like blurry vision or headaches.

When your optometrists checks your eyes and gives you your eyeglass prescription it should include the PD numbers on the form.

Unfortunately many times that number isn't placed on the form.

What to do?

How To Measure Your PD

You will need the help of one other person to easily measure your PD.

Simply take a ruler with the metric scale on it, have the other person hold the ruler across your face and measure the distance between the center of your pupil in one eye to the center pupil in the other eye.

Viola! You now have your PD number!

Typically it will be somewhere around 60-63mm.
