The Crete2Cape Vintage Air Rally is just about to begin! The rally will start on November 12th 2016 and should take about 5 weeks to complete.
One of the requirements of this rally is for aircraft built before December 31st, 1939. So far aircraft and crews from 12 countries will participate in this rally.
This exciting event will follow in the footsteps of the pioneering flights of the 1920s. The route from Greece to Cape Town South Africa will follow along the Eastern side of the African continent. From Greece to Egypt, through Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, pilots will experience the wonders (and dangers) of Africa!
They will fly low along the Nile, over the highlands of Ethiopia and then the plains of Kenya. Then off and past Kilimanjaro into the Serengeti and onto Zanzibar. Next crossing Zambia to the spectacular Victoria Falls, and then on to Zimbabwe. Then the sprint across Botswana and into South Africa, completing the journey in Cape Town!
This is a rally that has never been done before! Never!
