Ray-Ban Aviator vs AO General vs Concorde Aviator
The Ray-Ban Story
Ray-Ban was originally brought to market by Bausch & Lomb of Rochester, NY in 1937. The first sales of Ray-Ban sunglasses occurred in 1939 with a list price of $ 6.00!
The first sunglasses were called "Ray-Ban Anti-Glare", and they came with plastic frames and green lenses. However, they were remodeled with a metal frame and rebranded as the "Ray-Ban Aviator", the name they go by today.
Still the iconic tear-drop-shaped lenses, metal frame, and green lenses.
Over the years Randolph Engineering, Inc. and Ray-Ban have competed in the vintage tear-drop-shaped lens sunglass market.
When my wife (before we were married) got her private pilot license she bought a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators like the ones featured above.
Once I discovered these beloved Ray-Ban sunglasses I examined them carefully.
The first thing I noticed was that the temple was actually thin, almost like it was just a wire.
I could see how the temples had been bent and twisted numerous times.
– Total Black $ 213 compared to Concorde Matte Black $ 299
