The best sunglasses for Radio Control Enthusiasts

Once you have built your radio control model you head out to the fly field to launch your latest creation and wow your fellow enthusiasts. The field is well groomed, the sky is blue, and warm sunshine falls across the vale.

You watch and listen as your fellow enthusiasts launch their aircraft and perform aerobatic maneuvers to the delight of all the observers. As the rc model airplane climbs into the azure sky you place your hand over your eyes to shade them from the bright sunlight. Time to break out the sunglasses.

But what are the best sunglasses to use? Well, I have done the research and can offer you some ideas as to what you need to consider when purchasing a pair of sunglasses. The best sunglasses for use by drivers, fishermen and pilots are not the same.

Drivers need to be concerned about glare from the roadway, from other vehicles and off the glass of buildings as they drive down the road. Fishermen need to be able to see down into the water when they are trying to lure or land their catch. Pilots need to be able to see impending conflicts with the flight paths of other aircraft.

Drivers do best with sunglasses that are tinted amber, brown or yellow. These sunglasses provide the best visibility for drivers because they provide the best contrast and the ability to see people or objects that are in shadow. They also work well for driving in fog or haze conditions.

Fishermen need to be able to see into the water to locate hazardous objects, to check their hooks to see if the bait is still attached, to observe when a fish is approaching their bait and to help them land their catch.

For these two uses, driving and fishermen, polarized sunglasses work best. Polarized sunglasses reduce the glare produced when sunlight is reflected at an angle off of shiny surfaces like flat road surfaces or water. With polarized sunglasses fishermen can actually see down into the water in bright sunlight conditions.

Pilots, on the other hand, should not use polarized sunglasses as they eliminate the glare from the metal of airplanes that may be on a collision course with them. Polarized sunglasses also can distort the images from glass consoles in the cockpit, making it difficult for pilots to use those instruments to fly their aircraft.

Non-polarized sunglasses with amber, brown or yellow tint provide the best for this kind of use, and are also excellent for use in fog or hazy conditions.

For radio control enthusiasts it is clear that non-polarized sunglasses are the best choice as they provide the best protection for eyes while allowing the observer to locate, track and follow the aircraft as they fly around the rc fly field.

On this website you will find information about the best sunglasses for rc modelers. These Randolph sunglasses are non-polarized, and are used by military pilots around the world.

Randolph aviator sunglasses provide the best eye protection while eliminating the problem of polarized sunglasses which limit the ability of pilots to spot other aircraft on a collision course.

Randolph engineering sunglasses are specifically designed to provide proper protection for pilot’s eyes, and are therefore the best choice for rc modelers when flying their aircraft.
