Randolph Sunglasses

by John White 01 Feb 2020 0 Comments

Randolph Sunglasses have been around since 1973, and we have been a dealer for them since 2004.

I first encountered Randolph Aviators back in 1974 when I was looking to replace the AO Original Pilot sunglasses I had purchased as a budding professional pilot back in 1969. The AOs had steel frames and over time the temples (arms) and the frame around the lenses had been turning green from my skin oils.

So, I asked a number of pilot friends what sunglasses they wore and, as most of them were ex-military pilots, they pointed me to a pair of Randolph Aviator Sunglasses that they had been issued by the military.

Everyone one of my fellow pilots told me how great these Randolphs were. They told me that it was near impossible to break them, that the sunglass lenses had exceptional visual acuity, and that they remained comfortable no matter how long you wore them.

So I did a little detective work and bought my first pair back in 1974.

I still have the same pair to this day.

Randolph Sunglasses

Over the years Randolph has expanded their original line of aviator sunglasses to include models not only just for men but for women as well.

Today, Randolph Engineering sunglasses are still standard issue to U.S. military pilots, and another of their frames - the P3 - are issued to submariners in the U.S. Navy.

Randolph also provides more than just sunglasses to support our troops. During Operation Desert Storm Randolph was called upon to manufacture military grade inserts for gas masks for special ops.

Randolph Aviator Style

When most people think of aviator sunglasses they think of Ray Bans with the iconic tearderop shape. It is true that Randolph does manufacture a line of aviator sunglasses in the tear drop shape called "Concorde" sunglasses.

But the truth is Randolph Aviator Sunglasses have the navigator shape which is square to rectangular.

The reason todays aviators have the navigator shape is because of the requirements of modern day headgear which requires new specifications to fit todays military pilots.

This makes the navigator shape the best shape for aviator style sunglasses for pilots.

Not Just For Pilots

The next time you go to the movies keep an eye out for Randolphs.

If you happen to catch Captain Marvel, Maniac or 6 Underground you will see Randolphs on screen.

Even more interesting are the number of celebrities who wear Randolph Engineering aviator glasses. For example, Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise wear Randolph Aviator sunglasses daily.

Stay Cool

So, if you need a great pair of sunglasses, like the aviator (navigator) style, and want to keep up with the latest sunglasses fashion, get your self a pair (or more) of some super cool Randolph Engineering Aviator Sunglasses - you will not regret it!
