Choosing Your Lens Material
| Lens Material | Clarity | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| RSR Razor Sharp Resin | Near-glass clarity, lightweight | Pilots who want the lightest possible lens with exceptional optical performance. Scheyden's proprietary hard resin — as close to mineral glass as resin can get. |
| Mineral Glass | True glass clarity, scratch-resistant | Pilots who want the absolute best optical clarity and superior scratch resistance. Heavier than resin but unmatched in visual precision. |
Polarized vs. Non-Polarized
| Option | Best For |
|---|---|
| Non-Polarized | Recommended for pilots. Polarized lenses can interfere with LCD cockpit displays and glass cockpit instruments. Non-polarized keeps your instruments readable at all times. |
| Polarized | Ideal for non-aviation use — driving, boating, fishing, cycling. Maximum glare elimination from reflective surfaces. |
Lens Colors
| Lens Color | Best For |
|---|---|
| Bronze | Enhanced contrast and depth perception — excellent in variable light and hazy conditions |
| Gray | True color perception — the most versatile choice for bright conditions and everyday flying |
Frame Finishes
| Frame Finish | Style Notes |
|---|---|
| Black | Classic, bold, versatile — the pilot's standard |
| Tortoise (Havana) | Warm, classic — a refined look for a premium frame |

Frequently asked questions
Which are better - Polarized or Non-Polarized lenses?
For pilots, polarized lenses can cause serious instrument visibility problems in the cockpit. In addition, polarized lenses reduce glare and therefore inhibit pilots from seeing other aircraft. Therefore, for pilots non-polarized lenses are better.
Do darker lenses provide more UV protectiion?
False. UV protection is a coating or material property, not related to lens darkness. A clear lens with the UV400 coating protects better than a very dark lens without UV protection. All of our lenses come with UVA/UVB 400nm UV protection.
Are you just paying for a brand name?
Premium materials like mineral glass lenses and titanium frames have real, measureable performance differences that budget materials cannot replicate. The Scheyden price point reflects material costs and performance.
How should you clean your sunglasses?
Use a clean microfiber cloth and lens cleaning spray. Avoid wiping dry lenses with clothing or paper products which can introduce fine scratches. Rinse with water before wiping if there is dust or grit on the lenses.
